LWG152 Length Sensor and Angle Sensor Cable Reel Box – Hirschmann PAT for XCMG Crane

The LWG152 Cable Reel Box is a compact, high-precision length and angle sensor unit manufactured by WIKA Mobile Control (formerly Hirschmann PAT). It integrates both boom length measurement and boom angle measurement into a single housing, specifically designed for XCMG telescopic cranes and compatible with other Chinese crane brands including Puyuan, Changqi, and Liugong .

This sensor is a critical component of the crane's Load Moment Indicator (LMI) system, providing real-time geometric data to prevent overload conditions and ensure safe lifting operations.

How It Works

The length sensor uses a reeling drum that drives a potentiometer. As the boom extends or retracts, the length cable winds or unwinds, rotating the drum and changing the potentiometer output voltage (0.16V at fully retracted to 4.84V at 10 turns) .

The angle sensor is a potentiometer driven by an oil-damped weighted pendulum. As boom angle changes, the pendulum moves the potentiometer axle, producing an output between 1.875V at 90° and 3.125V at 0° .

Both signals are processed by a CAN-Bus converter board inside the cable reel and transmitted digitally to the central unit .

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • Pre-load Setting: After installation, turn the reeling drum counter-clockwise 5–8 turns to tension the length cable .
  • Length Calibration: With boom fully retracted, turn the length potentiometer (screw in center of white gear) counter-clockwise until it stops .
  • Angle Calibration: The angle sensor requires no field adjustment; it is factory-calibrated with the pendulum mechanism .
  • Cable Replacement: Replacement length cables must be routed through the axle strain relief and reconnected to the slip ring terminals .
